| El Topo was founded in Rome in 2006. Starting from Adriano Lanzi and Omar Sodano´s ideas, their music it´s a mixture of interplay and free form moments, with the help of Andrea Biondi, vibraphonist active in jazz and contemporary music (Ars Ludi, Ennio Morricone & Roma Sinfonietta, Luigi Cinque, Gianluigi Trovesi) and Francesco Mendolia, dexterous drummer in jazz-funk (Chester Harlan, Alessandro Gwis, Sun Energy) but also those electronic (Mino Freda). On stage, the quartet works with the artistic´s collective called Neumax (Simone Palma, Mirko Bruner, Alessandro Quintino, Emanuela Scarpa) doing a video performance. Adriano and Omar are active together or individually, as instrumentalists, improvisers, composers, sound-designers. After the remixing work on a song of krautrockers Faust, in 2004 they came out with the first original songs album, entirely instrumental, published by the label of the keyboardist Hans-Joachim Irmler, very favorably reviewed by the specialized press, not only Italian. The album Pigiama Psicoattivo (for the Belgian Off) is full of many guests: Amy Denio, vocalist of Seattle, Mike Cooper, virtuous slide and lap-steel guitarist, contrabbass played by Riccardo Lay, a etnojazz and impro scene veteran, percussionist Anadi Mishra. |
